New Law effective January 1, 2026

An exemption can be obtained for the slaughter and processing of poultry and rabbits.

• The exemption is effective for a period of two years, unless revoked.
• There is a limit of 5000 animals slaughtered and processed per calendar year.
• Products must be marked with farm name, address, and the statement "not inspected".
• Products can only be purchased and picked up at the location where exemption has been granted.
• Exempted products can NOT be sold at Farmer's Markets or to restaurants, grocery stores, etc.  The exempted products may only be sold to the end consumer.

To apply for the MPI Poultry & Rabbit Exemption, please submit:

• MPI Poultry & Rabbit Exemption Request Form
• Flow Chart or diagram of your facility showing location of water, drains, and flow of product.  You can also include a written explanation of the process.
• Current water test showing that the water is potable.
