Skylar Nutrition Shifts Production to Manufacture Hand Sanitizer
Skylar Nutrition, of Rushville, IL, a livestock nutrition and wellness company, shifted their production to hand sanitizer on March 30, 2020. When asked why they made the shift, Tom McMurren, owner of Skylar Nutrition, said “There was a lot of chatter of shortage of sanitizer in our community. Skylar labs has the equipment, FDA certified facility and we had most of the ingredients on hand anyway.”
Two of the main ingredients in hand sanitizer are alcohol (ethanol) and glycerin. The ethanol Skylar Nutrition is using for their hand sanitizer is derived from corn grown in Illinois. The glycerin used is a by-product of soybeans grown Illinois.
